Expositions graphics collection, 1876-1900.

This portion of the collection contains articles and images of world's fairs and expositions including 8 Centennial Exposition, Philadelphia, 1876; two Atlanta Exposition, 1895, Woman's building and women organizers; one Paris Exposition, 1900, article with photo of Mrs. Potter Palmer (incomplete); sixteen Chicago World's Fair, 1891-1893 (Columbian Exposition) including color satirical cartoons from Puck magazine, and The dream city, a portfolio of photographic views of the World's Columbian Exposition educational art series vol. 3, no. 3 (St. Louis, Mo.: N.D. Thompson, 1893). Also includes cover boards for L'exposition universelle, 1889.

The World's Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World’s Fair, was organized in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s landing in America. The fairgrounds, open from May 1, 1893 until October 30, 1893, were designed by Frederick Law Olmstead and covered more than 630 acres in Jackson Park and the Midway Plaisance.
